Small Space / Large Furniture

  • March 16, 2015

Just because you live in a small space, doesn’t mean that you have to use small furniture! When decorating small spaces, using large pieces can actually make a room look larger. Instead of cluttering your space with many small pieces, choose large furniture and use less of it.

From Top to Bottom,  Left to Right

1. Apartment Therapy demonstrates how using a large mirror can really brighten up a room. It also fools the eye into feeling there is a greater amount of space than there really is.

2. Instead of including multiple lamps in one room, utilize one over-sized lamp that will give off enough light and not take up precious floor space, via CapecodeCollegiate.

3. Instead of using multiple seating areas, utilize a large, cozy love seat instead via Apartment Therapy.

4. Rather than hanging up multiple pieces like a gallery, choose one big BOLD work of art, like this piece from TheVedaHouse, to really make a statement.

We hope that we have given you inspiration on how to tackle YOUR small space and make it feel even larger! Now all we have to figure out is how to get all these huge pieces into our car and back to our home to start decorating!

Installing a Tree Wall Decal using Center Hinge Method

  • January 19, 2015

Some of the most popular items that leave our shop are our line of Tree Decals. Perfect for nurseries, living rooms, or bedrooms they add a unique touch to any room’s decor and instantly catch the eye of all who enters.

Our latest video demonstration describes the steps for installing a multiple piece tree decal, or any multiple piece decal for that matter using our center hinge method again.

Although not hard to do, multiple piece decals and trees can require more time to get all of the pieces installed. Because all of the leaves are placed by hand, it allows for your design to be entirely unique to your creativity. So grab a friend for help and have fun with your new project!

Our Favorite Nursery Design Trends of 2015

  • January 16, 2015

With 2015 in full swing, this year is especially exciting for those expecting a baby! That’s why we have been very busy here at Wallums designing all kinds of new baby inspired decals and wall decor to help inspire families who will be decorating a nursery soon.

Take a look at some of the growing trends for babies showing up all over design blogs and websites that will make you jealous you never had a room that looked so good growing up!

Repurposed pallets and wood panels are all the trend these days. Not only do they add add an eclectic and rustic flare to nurseries, they are also economical and environmentally responsible by using reclaimed wood from old barns and homes in many cases. Your baby can rest easy knowing they’ve contributed to helping the rain forests!

Who says nursery walls should have to be bright and colorful? By making the walls a dark shade of Grey in these nurseries, it allows for fun pops of color through accent pieces like toys, area rugs and linens.

Let no one question whose room they’ve entered when you have Custom Name Art on the walls! Whether made out of wood, tin or decal stickers it will be that one of a kind decor element that you can keep for years to come.

There’s no need to go crazy with animal themes and cover the whole room in lions, tigers and bears. Oh my! Simply use one major item that will stand out but still add that piece of furry, feathery, and fuzzy charm to their nursery.  One of our latest custom installs using our Mama and Baby Elephant Wall Decal is a perfect example of that simple addition that still adds the “Awww” factor when guests see it.

Homes With A Dark Design Secret

  • October 07, 2014

When it comes to painting a room a new color, Black is one of the last colors that comes to mind. A common misconception is that it will make the room feel small, dreary, and dungeon like. But in these homes, Black is done right! Whether used indoors or outdoors, on walls or on ceilings, it transforms these rooms into dramatic and classic spaces. Pair your black walls with white decorative elements and you’ve got a match made in heaven!

Coffee Shop Interior Design

  • September 29, 2014

Since it’s International Coffee Day, it feels only appropriate to glorify coffee shop interior designs on the blog today!

What is it about coffee shops that feels like home (cue the music from Cheers)? Maybe it’s because if you’re a regular at your local coffee shop, the baristas begin to know your name and your “usual” drink. Or maybe it is the modern industrial architecture elements, relaxing armchairs, attractive artwork, wall colors, and soothing lighting. Whatever the case may be, it’s hard not to feel all warm and fuzzy inside as soon as you take the first sip of your latte or mocha.

But let’s not limit the coffee design elements to coffee shops only! Wallums has a bunch of clever wall quotes for all you coffee lovers to bring home and create the coffeehouse vibes in your space! Take a look at them all here.

A Global Backpacker Bedroom Reveal With Wallums Decals

  • September 04, 2014

It’s always exciting when a Wallums Decal leaves our shop and goes home to creative design minds like Jeran’s of Oleander and Palm. What starts out as just pieces of vinyl on a sheet of wax paper, soon gets transformed into amazing displays of art work like in her latest Global Backpacker Bedroom Makeover.

Like every good design project, there are many steps to take and planning involved. Shown below, every item for this bedroom was carefully selected and thought out. We could hardily wait to see what Jeran had planned when we saw that image of our World Traveler Decal among the other items included in the bedroom project!

Once Jeran received our decal she followed the instructions perfectly by taping off the corners of the decal to install it in sections. We know it’s easy to get excited and want to rush through things, but trust us when we say (and Jeran might agree) to take your time reading through the instructions and video before installing it!

Since we rarely ever get to know what our customers have in store for their new Wallums decal, the final results always blows us away when a photo is shared. The end results of this project definitely made us very proud! The map was a great addition to this backpacking, outdoorsy themed big boy room.
